Sustainability Post #6
I think that I have really tried to make a difference in what I do to save water and energy. The game that my mom and I came up with didn't work out very well. We don't really play it anymore. I still go around and turn off lights though. Taking shorter showers are hard for me. I think I was able to do it a little but not a great amount. I don't think we have changed much from this project since my dad has always recycled and my mom is working and Luke Center so she pushed for sustainability too. I think that some new ways that we have developed will work if we keep at them to make a routine. I real challenge for me was conserving water. Because I have paddle and water polo my hair really take a beating. Without long showers my hair is dreads. I think that my actions have really affected something in my family. I haven't seen the water or energy bill yet, but I think I have made a small difference. I think I will make my mom more incentives for me and my family to make the recycling we do more than just a chore. I believe that Punahou should make better ways of telling us than just shoving it down our throats. Being told, over and over again will only make us more annoyed about the subject. I think I will try to continue what I have started, but to be honest, I will probably forget about what I have done.

Sustainability Post #5

I found this website when I was looking up ways to make sustainability easier. I thought this was the best site that I looked at. It was kind of funny and it explained really what sustainability was. The shorter showers seem to be working for me during the week days, but on the weekends I am in the shower for a long time. Brailey, also still takes long showers. It seems that I am the only in the house that goes around to turn off the lights. Before I leave everyday and even when I got to dinner, I turn off the lights in the back of the house. My family has not really come in to a routine yet with turning off the lights.
I really liked the chapel today. Even thought it wasn't about recycling and reusing I thought it really showed something that we need to remember. Because all this "saying sustainable" stuff has been drilled and drilled into our heads, I thought it was refreshing to look at what sustains people like you and me.

Sustainability Post #4
The recycling is going great. The way that I am also saving water is taking more showers in the morning so that I have only a certain amount of time to take the shower. This helps me a lot. My mom has made up a game to help us be more sustainable. Since she works at the Luke Center, she has come up with an idea that if you leave the room without turning off the light you owe a dollar from my allowance I get. If I catch her with a light on I get a dollar. This game is really fun for me, not so much for her.
I also have started to turn my computer off at night more. This is because if I leave it charging while it is sleeping it just continuously sucks energy all night. It seems to also hold a charge longer that before when I didn't turn it off.

Sustainability Blog Post #3
I have kept up with my responsibilities to save water and energy. I have kept reminding my parents and sister about what I am doing and tell them to join me. Its is working. I thought the sustainability fair was really fun. It really helped me to understand what other things are going on around the island to help the earth. As I explained my blog to a man, he told me about the water underneath the island. As he explained, once the water is pumped up it fills with salt water and from then on the fresh water will never ever again be fresh. I thought this was important because eventually there will be no more water down there and it will never again be able to have fresh water in there. This man also made me realize that we are really working on a personal level. This was important to me because it shows that if we all do small things on a personal level we are able to make a larger impact. It showed me that one person doesn't need to give up everything; but many people can give a little to get more work done. I will try to maintain where I am now and do more things to help with the promises that I have made.

I think I am making a difference in my house about the energy that I am saving. I think I still need to work on saving more water though. I seem to take the same length showers instead of cutting down. I have told my parents about what I am doing and they are helping me. We make sure that all the lights are out when we leave the house, even if it is just a short ride down to Punahou and back. I have to remind my sister a lot because she has the most lights in her room. After water polo, I usually just dry off and go down to get picked up, I think maybe if I rinse off at school I won't have to spend so much time in the shower at home getting all the chlorine off.

MND Sustainability Blog Post #1
For the use of energy I think I am doing a pretty good job. I try to remember to turn off any light in my house that is not being used and I also try not to leave my fan and computer on all night so that it is not continuously using energy when I'm not using it. I recycle a lot. I recycle every bottle that I can and I also go with my dad to recycle all the things we collect at the end of the week and the bin by Manoa Elementary. I think I waste a lot of water though; I take really long showers. Besides taking long showers, I don’t waste that much water. We have three cars at my house. My dad has his work truck and my mom has her van that she uses all the time. The last car we hardly use unless something is wrong with one of the other cars. My parents have been trying to eat healthier with brown rice and stuff. We are also trying to eat out less.
I think that I can really work on wasting so much water and eating healthier. I think I can do these things because they are small things that will have a big impact if I hold to my promises. The way that I can do this is taking shorter showers and getting the rest of my family, like my sister and mom, to cut their shower time too. I think to eat healthier I will come with my mom to the store so that we can get healthier food. This way, I won't even have the option of eating unhealthy food. I'll try and bring home lunch more and if I buy things at the snack I will always get water and some kind of fruit.
