MND Sustainability Blog Post #1

For the use of energy I think I am doing a pretty good job. I try to remember to turn off any light in my house that is not being used and I also try not to leave my fan and computer on all night so that it is not continuously using energy when I'm not using it. I recycle a lot. I recycle every bottle that I can and I also go with my dad to recycle all the things we collect at the end of the week and the bin by Manoa Elementary. I think I waste a lot of water though; I take really long showers. Besides taking long showers, I don’t waste that much water. We have three cars at my house. My dad has his work truck and my mom has her van that she uses all the time. The last car we hardly use unless something is wrong with one of the other cars. My parents have been trying to eat healthier with brown rice and stuff. We are also trying to eat out less.
I think that I can really work on wasting so much water and eating healthier. I think I can do these things because they are small things that will have a big impact if I hold to my promises. The way that I can do this is taking shorter showers and getting the rest of my family, like my sister and mom, to cut their shower time too. I think to eat healthier I will come with my mom to the store so that we can get healthier food. This way, I won't even have the option of eating unhealthy food. I'll try and bring home lunch more and if I buy things at the snack I will always get water and some kind of fruit.

I have high hopes for you in becoming more sustainable because it sounds like it was easy for you to put together a list of what you are already doing. Since you know where to improve, the target for your sustainability goals gets bigger.

Chauncey, you are doing a great job recycling. Getting your whole family involved in it also helps and its lucky that you live so close to a recycling center. I also have the problem of taking showers that are too long. Try taking them in the morning so that you have a time limit and if you take one too long, you are late for school.

Eating healthier and conserving water are two things that are pretty easy to do, and both are good ways to conserve resources and be sustainable. Try to find other ways to save water, there are a lot out there that just need a little thought to discover. Other than that, looks like you're well ono your way to becoming more sustainable. Good plan and good luck.
